AmCham Denmark, the U.S. Embassy and Foreningen Nydansker are pleased to highlight that the refugee mentoring and internship programs have shown great results. Companies such as Novo Nordisk, IBM, Roche, DTU, Bayer and DONG Energy have launched mentoring or internship programs targeting highly skilled refugees and the value gains are evident for both companies and the interns / mentees.

IBM Refugee Mentoring Update: "I Am Only Available after Work Hours”

IBM Denmark has recently marked the formal ending of the second season of their refugee mentoring program. The program aims to accelerate the integration of refugees into the Danish labor market and was launched in partnership with the U.S. Embassy, AmCham Denmark and Foreningen Nydansker.

DTU Joins AmCham's Refugee Mentoring Program

On September 5, The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) launched a refugee mentoring program at a kick-off event, where a total of 30 highly skilled refugees were matched with a volunteer mentor from DTU with a similar professional background.

EU Commission's Diversity Charters Newsletter

The Refugee Mentoring Program was featured in the EU Commission's Diversity Charters' June newsletter. The article highlighted the ease of how businesses can join the effort of welcoming and integrating refugees into the labour market, while at the same time developing their employees’ competences and diversity skills.

New Beginnings with Novo Nordisk

With millions displaced by war, business has a key role in helping refugees integrate, contribute and flourish in society. For Novo Nordisk, the straightforward decision was to be part of the solution. The harder question as a pharmaceutical company was how to support a diverse population of refugees as they seek to integrate within Danish society and the workforce.

The Story of IBM'S 2016 Refugee Mentoring Program

In the Spring of 2016, IBM kicked off their first Refugee Mentoring Program. The program involved 25 highly skilled refugees. After just six months, the program had already generated great results:

  • 8 mentees are in full-time employment
  • 4 mentees have enrolled in studies
  • 4 mentees are signed up for internships
  • 1 mentee has a traineeship
  • 1 mentee has started a business
