AmCham Security Committee Kickoff: Monitoring for Insider Threats

AmCham, in partnership with OSAC (Overseas Security Advisory Council) & the U.S. Embassy’s Commercial Service is pleased to invite you to an event on Monitoring for Insider Threats. This event marks the launch of AmCham’s Security Committee, which aims to advise companies operating in Denmark of global and local security risks affecting business operations utilizing experts from the U.S. Embassy’s global network.

Today’s most damaging security threats are not originating from malicious outsiders or malware but from trusted insiders - both negligent and malicious. Insider threats are becoming more frequent, with a 2018 report determining that 53% of companies surveyed had confirmed insider attacks within the last 12 months.

These actions can be taken out by disgruntled employees – however there are an increasing number of nation-states who recruit or coerce company employees to steal intellectual property - in order to further their nation’s own economic development or to get around sanctions.

Patrick Bartlett, a U.S. Government security veteran who spent 20 years in the United States Intelligence Community, will begin with an overview of China 2025, along with the current sanctions against Iran, North Korea and Russia – and some of the creative ways these countries are circumventing these restrictions using company insiders.

Referencing open-source information, Mr. Bartlett will focus on outcomes of recent cases including:

  • The arrest of employees from Huawei & Apple,
  • American Superconductor and the Chinese company Sinovel
  • The expulsion of two Huawei employees from Denmark
  • Recent hackings of several major Danish corporations
We will also hear a business perspective from Jacob Bensen, Associate Director Europe & Nordic Region, Global Security, Biogen.

Join us for this discussion about insider threats, and how your company can monitor and keep your organization secure.
