On June 27, AmCham's HR Committee, in partnership with Steelcase, ISS and Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies (CIFS), set focus on the role of space in engaging employees in the workplace. The event was held at ISS' new office facilities in Søborg, which served as the perfect backdrop for the discussion.

The workplace is changing and so is the concept of space. The silo-thinking is outdated, and it has become common sense for most CEO's that employees are more efficient in a well-suited workspace. These were some of the key conclusions outlined by CIFS Director Jeffrey Saunders, from his organization's newly released study, "Working in the Age of Hyper Agility - The Future of Work and Employee Engagement".

A few years ago, the service and facility management company ISS found themselves rethinking their office facilities in inner Copenhagen, and took on the daunting task of redefining the role of space in their workplace. ISS' Chief Marketing Officer Peter Ankerstjerne shared the inspiring ISS story on how the company had engaged its employees in the transition, which ended with an open and highly functional workspace, which supported their workflow, engaged employees, and reduced costs at the same time.

Following Ankerstjerne's presentation, Environmental Psychologist and Research Lead Beatriz Arantes, Steelcase, conducted an interactive workshop where participants in small groups exchanged examples from their workplaces which had contributed to an improved employee engagement.

The event concluded with a brief tour around the ISS facilities led by Peter Ankerstjerne.
