On February 1, The “AmCham Loft” formed the backdrop for a Power Breakfast on business analytics featuring Brant SteenCIO of Bucks County Community College.

Mr. Steen began by explaining Business Analytics, and how it differs from data and analytics disciplines before it.  Business Intelligence, Big Data – all of these concepts have become frequently used buzz words and the subjects of major initiatives. Unfortunately, many of these initiatives fall short of expectations or fail entirely at one critical juncture: using the data to drive realistic, useful action. Business Analytics is the discipline of using data and analytics, combined with business experience and intuition, to build actionable plans; then follow through, and use the outcomes to drive further business and data initiatives.

In his presentation, Mr. Steen exemplified ways that business analytics can be realistically introduced into any company, pointing out how a little buy-in from leadership can result in practical process improvements throughout even the most mature organisations and provide the tools necessary to utilize data in meaningful ways.

Bucks County Community College is an international leader in continuing education, workforce development, and home to America’s third largest public safety training program.

With over 13,000 degree-seeking students at its three campuses and two training centers in the United States, the College, which is headquartered in Newtown, Pennsylvania, is ready to work in Europe, where it currently has five visiting instructors.
