U.S. Ambassador Inaugurates Varian Linear Accelerators at Rigshospitalet
Ambassador Sands (L) and Sophie Hæstorp-Andersen cut the ribbon on the first Varian linear accelerator at Rigshospitalet.

On April 18, U.S. Ambassador Carla Sands & Chair of the Capital Region Sophie Hæstorp Andersen inaugurated two new Varian linear accelerators together with Varian's Global CEO Dow Wilson. The official inauguration ceremony was held at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen and was attended by AmCham's Deputy Director Einar Dyrhauge.

The U.S. Ambassador held a short speech where she praised the cooperation: “What a great honor for me to help inaugurate this model example of U.S.-Danish partnership, one that strives for better and more efficient cancer treatment in Denmark." The inauguration ceremony culminated in an official ribbon cutting ceremony performed by Chair Hæstorp Andersen and Ambassador Sands.

The two new linear accelators at Rigshospitalet are the first out of a total of 17 devices, which the Capital Region has procured from U.S. based Varian Medical Systems, including two sourced from Cleveland-based ViewRay, as part of a DKK 323 million contract. The accelerators are designed to provide a more efficient and targeted treatment to cancer patients in the Capital Region and will be supplied to Herlev Hospital and Gentofte Hospital in addition to Rigshospitalet.
