Denmark Launches New National Powerhouse for Clinical Trials

In Denmark, government agencies, global healthcare companies and hospitals are joining forces to further improve the country’s high scientific quality in clinical research.
Launching Trial Nation on Wednesday, 5 December, Denmark is setting up a national organisation to coordinate and handle every aspect of conducting clinical trials from application to approval or certification, including navigating legal frameworks and recruiting patients.

This service will make it much easier for companies to test new drugs or medical devices, says Thomas Kongstad Petersen, Chairman of Trial Nation and Vice President at global healthcare company LEO Pharma.

"With Trial Nation we have built the best clinical trial infrastructure in the world. The organisation is in close contact with doctors, scientists, patient groups, and national authorities such as the Danish Medicines Agency, and our people are legal, operational and administrative experts", says Thomas Kongstad Petersen.

Funding for Trial Nation comes from the government’s annual budget, global healthcare companies and the five Danish regions running the country’s hospitals. This broad collaboration between government, industry and health services puts Denmark among frontrunning countries for clinical trials, despite its small population of 5.5 million.

Thomas Kongstad Petersen says: We are constantly improving the conditions for conducting clinical trials in Denmark. Our competitive advantage is access to all patients in the country, and the absolute best and most comprehensive health registries globally. In this age, world class infrastructure and engagement of patients is paramount, if you want to lead the way in clinical trials. With the launch of Trial Nation we are strengthening both.
