AmCham’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 23 was an opportunity to consider Chamber’s emerging role in Denmark, and to set its course for the next year.

The bottom line: in 2009 AmCham “provided more access to decision makers than ever before,” says AmCham’s Stephen Brugger.

Now, AmCham’s main objective is to strengthen the relationship between AmCham and key decision makers helping to promote a competitive business environment in Denmark and reduce barriers to cross Atlantic trade and investment.

A Year of Progress

In 2009 the Chamber initiated, implemented and sustained a strategic program while maintaining a solid financial foundation. It was a year of strategic, issues-oriented progress on many fronts. Policy & government relations highlights included meetings with 6 Ministers, 6 MPs, 1 Party Leader and the heads of both the Statens Serum Institute and National Board of Health.

Additionally AmCham celebrated its 10 year anniversary at Tivoli Gardens, launched a new and improved website and monthly Business Briefs and delivered 17 events for its members. No small achievement for the hardworking staff of five.

The annual report noted that there were 276 Chamber members at the end of 2009. In terms of finances, the Chamber’s costs were down and income was up, supplemented substantially by an expanded sponsorship program that provides profiling opportunities for members.

In other business, the AGM re-elected to AmCham’s board Bill Allen, Senior Vice President HR – Maersk; Paul Schofield, Managing Director, Hess; and Lene Skole, Executive Vice President & CFO, Coloplast. The following board members were confirmed: Allan Agerholm, CEO & Managing Director, Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers; Thomas Gregers Honoré, Managing Director, Oracle, Kristian Scheef Madsen, Managing Director, McDonald’s; Charlotte Mark, Managing Director, Microsoft Development Center; and Dorte Mikkelsen, Vice President Europe, MSD.

As with all good things, board terms must come to an end. With great regret, AmCham bid farewell to two board members who have served 6 years on AmCham’s Board of Directors: Torben Juul Andersen, Associate Professor - Copenhagen Business School was awarded the Certificate of Excellence for his unwavering dedication and support. Other outgoing Board member, Jørgen Bardenfleth, General Manager at Microsoft, will receive his certificate at a later date.

In closing, Brugger emphasized that 2010 is about building on the important progress we’ve made. “It’s a process that starts with partners and partnerships, and we are on the right path, he said.”
