Siemens recognized for its strategic investments and significant contribution to Danish job creation and economic growth.

An independent jury consisting of Jesper Møller, CEO of Toms Group and DI Chairman; Sten Scheibye, Chairman for the Danish Trade Council; and Steen Thomsen, Professor at Copenhagen Business School named Siemens Denmark as the recipient of the 2011 AmCham Denmark Foreign Company of the Year.

The beautiful “Festsal” at Copenhagen’s City Hall formed the backdrop for this year's Ambassador's Reception and Foreign Company of the Year Award. More than 150 guests attended this year's event, which was hosted by U.S. Ambassador Laurie S. Fulton.

During the official awards ceremony, Ambassador Fulton announced “Siemens” as the winner of the Foreign Company of the Year and was joined by jury spokesman Jesper Møller and AmCham Chairman Kim Østrup in presenting Siemens CEO Jukka Pertola with a framed award plaque. Following the award ceremony guests continued their networking while enjoying the world famous City Hall pancakes together with sparkling wine.

Jukka Pertola, CEO, who accepted the prize for Siemens Denmark, was honored by the prestigious award. "We are very excited about this award, because it recognizes our company's successful strategy here in Denmark." says Siemens CEO Jukka Pertola. "The Danes ability to work together towards a common goal, as well as with colleagues from other nations and cultures is a clear explanation of the reason for our success in wind energy, among other areas. We continue to expect the need for more Danish labor in wind energy, which is a benefit for Siemens, but also for the Danish society. Our cooperation with the business community and Danish Technical University have also helped with this success."

According to Jesper Møller, spokesman for the jury, Siemens was a natural choice. "Siemens Denmark is one of Denmark's largest companies with more than 100 years of history in the country. In recent years, Siemens has grown significantly due to large scale strategic investments in wind power, measuring equipment, train communications and a range of other activities. This has contributed significantly to Danish job creation and growth."

"Siemens Denmark also takes its corporate social responsibility seriously, employing a diverse staff as well as a range of green and clean technologies, including electric vehicles, wind turbines and energy efficiency of its buildings," added Møller.

"AmCham Denmark is proud to recognize Siemens Denmark for their impressive achievements in Denmark. Foreign companies play a vital role in the Danish economy and have tremendous potential to help Denmark out of its economic challenges. We look forward to working closely with the new Danish government on improving Denmark's attractiveness as a destination for foreign investments and future job creation and growth," says Stephen Brugger, AmCham's Executive Director.

The competition for AmCham’s 2011 Foreign Company of the Year Award was tough – finalists included Abbott, Babcock & Wilcox Vølund, Better Place Denmark, Cisco Denmark, GlaxoSmithKline Pharma, and Hess Denmark.
