On February 5th, 160 American Football fans gathered at Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers for the live broadcast of Super Bowl 46, the championship game of the National Football League (NFL). This year’s Super Bowl match-up featured the New England Patriots vs. the New York Giants in a classic east-coast rivalry, viewed by more than 111 million people in the U.S. alone.
AmCham Denmark teamed up once again with the Danish American Football Federation (DAFF) to deliver an authentic Super Bowl experience - complete with American football fare in the Crowne Plaza’s richly decorated Everest Ballroom. Upon arrival, guests enjoyed to a traditional Super Bowl buffet together with buckets of Budweiser beer, served up by the colorful “Bud Girls” promotional team.
Prior to the 12:30 am kick-off, guests were treated to a pre-game entertainment program, which was moderated by AmCham Denmark Executive Director Stephen Brugger and featured welcoming remarks from Ambassador Laurie S. Fulton and an overview of American football in Denmark by DAFF’s Athletic Director, Lars Carlsen. The program was rounded out by DAFF’s Development Consultant Thomas Nielsen, who walked fans through the football trivia table quiz, which was won in an exciting “sudden death” competition.
Super Bowl XLVI met all expectations for an exciting football game, and to compliment the action was a "squares pool", which is a typical part of Super Bowl parties across America and kept participants eager to know the score after each quarter. The lucky winners walked away with some fantastic prizes including Round Trip tickets to the U.S. on Icelandair, a weekend stay at Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers, a case of Budweiser Beer and TWO-FOR-ONE discount coupon books.
During the night the excitement ran deep as fans cheered for their favorite team. In the end, the Giant’s Eli Manning orchestrated yet another last minute fourth quarter scoring drive, leading the Giant’s to a 21-17 “come-from-behind” victory over the Patriots.
