On June 12, the California Wine Institute and AmCham teamed up to deliver a fantastic afternoon of networking and wonderful California wines. About 60 participants gathered at the U.S. Embassy to sample wines from one of the world’s top growing regions, along with appetizers prepared by The Diplomat’s Keld Johnsen.
California has a wine production history that dates back to the 1700’s, and the area is an incredibly diverse wine growing region, with nearly 100 grape varietals, grown in dozens of microclimates and diverse soil types. As AmCham’s Stephen Brugger noted in the welcome speech, “since the 1700’s, immigrants from all over the world have settled in California, bringing their vines and unique skills with them...and these secrets have been passed from generation to generation.”
U.S. Ambassador Laurie Fulton was on hand to give a welcome toast to the crowd (J Vineyards Sparkling Wine). She reminded everyone about transatlantic trade, even urging the Danes to buy American wine to help with the trade deficit.
California Wine Institute’s Pia Vodder brought together 14 Danish wine importers, with about 60 total wines to sample:
- California Wine ApS
- Copenhagen Wine
- Wine E-Shop
- KK Wine
- Sigurd Müller
- Graa Vin
- Otto Suenson
- Nanfelotti Vin
- Kjær Sommerfeldt
- The Wine Company
- American Wine
Importers shared their expertise and gave suggestions regarding wine pairing with an extremely curious crowd. Wines were available for purchase and pre-order, at fantastic AmCham discount prices, and no one left in doubt that California is a top caliber producer of fine wine.
Note: These special California Wine Offers available to AmCham members through July 7.
