ESAC 2012

The 12th annual Executive Seminar in Analytical Chemistry, ESAC 2012, was held on April 18, 2012, at Scandic Copenhagen Hotel.

This unique industry event is an ideal opportunity to learn about the latest developments in analytical instruments from six of the most progressive vendors in the industry, and to hear from leading scientific researchers from all fields of analytical chemistry as they present their experiences, methods and results.

Registration has been closed. For more information on ESAC 2012, contact AmCham at phone (+45) 33 932 932 or esac@amcham.dk.

Special keynote speakers included:

Lars O. Dragsted, Professor in Nutrigenomics, Faculty of Life Sciences (LIFE), Copenhagen University, Department of Human Nutrition

Nutrigenomics Of The Daily Apple

Apples are traditionally associated with healthiness. However, very few scientific studies have been done to pinpoint and understand the actual health benefits of apples. As part of the large EU Project (ISAFRUIT), the effects of apples in animals and in humans has been investigated - using transcriptomics and metabolomics to further understand the effects. Apples can influence the gut microbiota, lipid transport, enzymatic defense systems and other functions in rats, which could explain some health effects observed in both rats and humans.

Niels H. H. Heegaard, MD, Director, Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology, SSI (Statens Serum Institut)

"Developing New Diagnostics For Human Disease Using High Resolution Multianalyte Techniques"The quest for ever more specific, individualized, and early detection of diseases is being met by increasingly sophisticated high-resolution, high-throughput, and sensitive instruments for biofluid analysis. This makes it possible for micro-RNAs as well as proteomes to be profiled in great detail, using very little input material as a basis for biomarker discovery. The overabundance of analytical possibilities pose unique opportunities and challenges for biomarker development projects in cancer, rheumatology, and Alzheimer’s disease
