AmCham’s Business Barometer

AmCham Denmark makes it a priority to understand the issues facing our members and to be their voice in working to influence key decision makers and legislation impacting the international business community.

To help us identify key issues and trends, AmCham annually surveys international companies in Denmark and reports the findings in our Business Barometer, and in September 2016, AmCham Denmark released its 2016 Business Barometer.

Key Findings:

The barometer shows that international companies are still investing in Denmark, and in 2014-15 the also achieved a significant growth in jobs. However, despite growing their investments in Denmark, 47 % of the companies have seriously considered moving some investments and jobs elsewhere. The high cost of doing business in Denmark is the primary reason, and the Nordic countries are the most popular alternative.

Other findings include:

  • Regional consolidation is a key factor in moving investments cross borders.

  • Denmark’s strongest selling points remain the high quality of life and infrastructure/accessibility.

  • Companies are not certain Denmark’s ability to produce as well as attract and retain talent.

  • While the ability to find competencies on the Danish labor market is improving, a majority (63 %) have made use of the Tax Program for Researchers and Key Personnel in order to attract talent and specialists from abroad.

  • This program is very popular among the users, and is considered essential in attracting foreigners. However, companies are aware of the potential conflicts among employees created by the program.

  • A TTIP agreement will have a positive impact on the trade of more than half of the companies.
