Government presents new Healthcare Reform Plan
The Danish government has long been touting a reform of the healthcare structure as a way to combat inequality in health. The proposed reform is vast and would change the healthcare landscape significantly. Some of the major take-aways are:
- The plan will entail that Denmark moves from 5 to 4 regions, as Region Sjælland and Region Hovedstaden will be merged into one major region
- 17 new health councils will be created and will consist of elected representatives from both the regional councils and the city councils of the municipalities
- The government will introduce new care packages for chronic diseases
- A goal of at least 5000 local doctors by 2035 – end more equally spread out in the regions
- A new national center for health innovation will be established. Will control and strengthen the development and use of innovative health solutions
