Danish Government’s 2024 Health Reform Agreed

Health Reform was agreed between the Danish Government, Danmarksdemokraterne, SF, The Conservative People’s Party, and the Social Liberal Party. The agreement sets a transformative agenda for Denmark’s healthcare system, aiming to address demographic challenges, reduce inequality in health, and enhance local healthcare access.

Key elements include:

  • New Organizational Framework: Four regions and 17 local health councils will replace the current system, enabling better collaboration between municipalities and regions.
  • Increased Healthcare Investment: A financial boost includes DKK 6.4 billion annually for operations by 2030 and DKK 27.5 billion for infrastructure and digital solutions.
  • Addressing Inequity: Redistribute resources to underserved areas and increasing the number of general practitioners, targeting 5,000 by 2035.
  • Enhanced Patient Rights: Introduce new rights for chronic illness management and the expansion of free healthcare options near homes.
  • Integration of Services: Closer collaboration between physical and mental health services, with additional funding of DKK 4.3 billion for psychiatry by 2030.
