Language & Culture key to Retaining International Talent

AmCham’s HR Forum wrapped up an engaging workshop led by Tammy Christensen, Intercultural Trainer at Berlitz. The workshop, which was hosted by Summit, focused on cultural awareness as a key to retaining international talent. With hands‑on exercises, real‑world examples, and lively discussions, Tammy highlighted how differences in language, communication styles, and workplace norms can quietly impact collaboration, inclusion, and long‑term retention.

Drawing on her 12 years of experience supporting Danish and international professionals, Tammy demonstrated how cultural and linguistic awareness helps teams move beyond good intentions toward genuine integration. Participants explored practical tools to strengthen cross‑cultural collaboration, improve engagement, and support not only international employees during critical transition periods.

The workshop sparked an interesting dialogue among HR and L&D leaders, underscoring that retention goes beyond recruitment and onboarding incentives. Proactively addressing communication and culture strengthens engagement, performance, and ultimately retention.
