U.S. Introduces New $100,000 Fee for H-1B Visa Applications

On September 19, President Trump signed a proclamation introducing a $100,000 fee for new H-1B visa petitions.

The measure took effect from September 21, 2025, will apply for an initial 12-month period, and targets new H-1B petitions. All petitions received by USCIS after the proclamation date will be subject to the fee.  Petitions received before that date will not be affected.

The proclamation cites protection of U.S. labor markets as its main justification. For Danish companies operating in the U.S., this could significantly increase the cost of hiring specialized foreign talent.

Industries most exposed include technology, engineering, life sciences, and other sectors reliant on global expertise.

AmCham will continue to monitor developments and keep members updated.
