Harvard Business Review: Bias, Interrupted

On March 11, AmCham Denmark partnered with Tartarklubben and Harvard Business Review for a virtual session on with Harvard Business Review Author Joan C. Williams, to discuss her book “Bias, Interrupted: Creating Inclusion for Real & for Good.”

American companies spend close to $8 billion annually on diversity efforts, with remarkably few results. Too often, diversity efforts rest on the assumption that all that’s needed is an earnest conversation about “privilege.” Addressing systemic bias and prejudice requires changing systems.

During the event, Williams shared a reassuring message that leaders just need to use standard business tools – data and metrics – to interrupt the bias that is constantly transmitted through formal systems like performance appraisals and the informal systems that control access to opportunities.
