Microsoft named 2022 Foreign Company of the Year

An independent jury has chosen Microsoft Denmark as the winner of *AmCham’s 2022 Foreign Company of the Year based on its significant growth and investments in recent years, and ultimately its deep commitment to Danish society through partnerships.

Microsoft’s growth has been impressive, doubling in three years and surpassing 1B USD, while continuing to grow double digits. Today, Microsoft employs around 800 people in Denmark and has been named one of the 100 largest taxpayers several years in a row.

The company is also recognized for its continued commitment to ensuring Denmark is a hub for research and development globally. Spokesperson for the jury, Bjarne Corydon, says: “Microsoft’s commitment to Denmark is truly remarkable, deep and many faceted. In the last several years, Microsoft’s large-scale capital investments in quantum research has helped position Denmark as a hub for quantum research and application, in partnerships with the Niels Bohr Institute & Copenhagen University. Additionally, the company is currently investing heavily in the green digital transformation of Denmark including building a new Datacenter region running on 100% renewable energy.”

A strong lineup of partnerships is a key element in Microsoft’s Digital Leap Denmark plan which leverages technology to empower future welfare, growth and the green transition. An example is partnerships with Danish jobcenters, non-profits and the business community to provide digital upskilling for 200,000 Danes across all ages and skill levels – to ensure Denmark is ready for the future, not least when it comes to cyber security.

Besides Bjarne Corydon, the 2022 jury also consists of Sanna Suvanto-Haarsae, Chairman (Bo Concept, TCM, etc.), and Jørgen Bardenfleth, Chairman (Impero, Dubex, Bizbrains, Symbion )

Nana Bule, Country Manager for Microsoft Denmark says:  “I am proud and grateful for this recognition as AmCham 2022 Foreign Company of the Year. Microsoft has been in Denmark for more than 30 years and we keep investing heavily to help Danish companies and organizations succeed and stay secure through digital transformation. This is not only critical for our global competitiveness, but also for sustaining our welfare society and driving the next phase of the green transition in Denmark”.

Charlotte Mark, Managing Director for Microsoft Development Center concurs: “We are very excited and honored for this recognition and appreciate the long-term partnership with AmCham in fostering transatlantic relationships and driving improvements to the framework conditions for doing research and development in Denmark.”

AmCham Denmark is proud to recognize Microsoft as the 2022 Foreign Company of the Year. “This prestigious award recognizes the importance and positive impact made by foreign companies investing in Denmark – which comprise only 1.2% of private sector companies but create more than 20% of the private sector jobs,” says Stephen Brugger, AmCham Executive Director.

“Foreign companies hold the key to future growth in the economy, and when they choose to invest in Denmark, it creates jobs, growth and innovation. Therefore, it is a privilege for AmCham to help foreign companies tell their success stories – and this year’s finalists were six multinational companies from the absolute top drawer, who provided the jury with several great stories to choose from,” adds Brugger.

AmCham would like to congratulate this year’s other finalists: Agilent, BASF, Cook Medical, FMC & MSD – who were all very qualified and made the jury’s decision extremely difficult.
