MSD Named 2023 Foreign Company of the Year
An independent jury has chosen MSD Denmark as the winner of AmCham’s 2023 Foreign Company of the Year based on significant growth & investments in recent years, along with long term and in-depth clinical research commitment to Denmark.
MSD’s growth in recent years is driven by their vaccines and oncology treatments. The company has dedicated itself to long term investments in Denmark, particularly within research and development along with access to new treatment and vaccines to the benefit of Danish patients. Currently MSD has 54 active clinical trials in Denmark. Spokesperson for the jury, Sanna Suvanto-Haarsae, says: “In 2022, MSD invested more than 117 million DKK ($16 million) in clinical research in Denmark, making MSD one of the biggest private investors in clinical research in the country.”
MSD’s commitment to research is indicative of the strong clinical research environment in Denmark, which is of particular benefit for Danish health care patients. For example, MSD recently became the first company that can provide both prevention through vaccination as well as treatment of the same cancer type. Additionally, several medical products in MSD’s innovative pipeline, which are currently being tested in Denmark, have shown promising early clinical results and therefore have been categorized Breakthrough Therapy Designation.
Ece Bayrak, Managing Director of MSD in Denmark says: “We are so proud and grateful for this recognition as AmCham’s 2023 Foreign Company of the Year. MSD is fortunate to have been operating in Denmark and delivering to the Danish healthcare system for almost 55 years. Our commitment here is to Denmark’s fantastic clinical research environment – and ultimately to the health of all Danish citizens.”
AmCham Denmark is proud to recognize MSD as the 2023 Foreign Company of the Year. “This prestigious award recognizes the importance and positive impact made by foreign companies investing in Denmark – which comprise only 1.2% of private sector companies but create more than 20% of the private sector jobs,” says Stephen Brugger, AmCham Executive Director.
“Foreign companies hold the key to future growth in the economy, and when they choose to invest in Denmark, it creates jobs, growth and innovation. Therefore, it is a privilege for AmCham to help foreign companies tell their success stories – and this year’s finalists were five multinational companies from the absolute top drawer, who provided the jury with several great stories to choose from,” adds Brugger.
AmCham would like to congratulate this year’s other finalists: Expeditors, Mastercard, Medtronic & NOV – who were all very qualified and made the jury’s decision extremely difficult.
